Plant of the Week

Dahlia

Plant essence guidance;

To find your truth, love the beauty within.

Interesting tidbits;

The dahlia ranges in height from very small minature bedding plants about 6 inches high to the larger varieties that can be up to 3-4 feet high.
They are a tuberous herbaceous plant.
The dahlia comes from Mexico and Central America. There are many different flower forms
Dahlias are not very frost resistant so in cold climates the tubers are lifted each autumn and stored until spring. Most prefer a sunny, sheltered, position in well-fertilised, well drained soil.
The dahlia is named after Andreas Dahl, a Swedish botanist and pupil of Linnaeus. All dahlias are grown from hybrids from species rarely seen in the gardens.
